Concession 8

Deep in the heart of the Pickering airport lands is a little used dusty dirt road named Concession 8. Slightly off the beaten path, it makes for a Ceedy-friendly homeward commute route. On this road, I discovered an old school building and a pioneer cemetary. Perfect photo opportunities, I thought, and thus I stopped by each this past Friday to take some pictures.

HOWEVER, I was plagued by the curse of the defective secure digital memory card. Of the 20 or so pictures that I took, only 7 ended up being presentable. The wierd thing is that when viewing them as thumbnails in Windows, they look normal. It's only when you open them up fully that they turn to sludge. Damn shame too, as I was quite proud of a few of them. Ah well. Now that I've purchased a SD card that works, I'll have to stop by the locales again and retake those pictures that were pooched.

Looking up at the school name plaque, normal size.

Another view of the plaque, 2x zoom on the camera. Why, the school building is older than Canada!

Around one side of the building is a the hydro meter. Oh yeah, this is a happening place!

A row of broken headstones in the cemetary.

The cemetary has two clusters of headstones, one along the west side and this one in the north-east corner.

Row of headstones along the treeline, in said NE corner.

View from the cemetary, looking south east. For the past 36 years, all this land has been reserved by the federal government for an airport. Bye bye farmland; hello tarmac. Perhaps.
